The unexamined life is not worth living!

Well no one knows I'm on this so I could write whatever I wanted ...

Current events in my life:
  • I'm realising that when I weigh up the pros and cons of being friends with a certain person (that I've been "best friends" with for five and a half years), there are less pros than there are cons (or vice versa) :o ... normally I like to think of myself as wise so I'm surprised it has taken me this long to take a step back and look at things objectively. In particular the most striking cons are the way that this person has hindered my other friendships not just me even if he wasn't completely serious (for example leading me to believe that my other housemate hates me, or talking badly about me behind my back to another acquaintance [who is now a best friend]).
  • Me and another friend are going to swap lives for a week (the week after this one). He gets to live like a poor independent student with no parental safety net, shopping/cooking/cleaning for himself, no home comforts and three housemates in an old share house. I get to live like the wealthy only child of his parents in a large modern three-story house where his mum will do most of the cooking and cleaning with entertainment at my fingertips. Surprisingly he is almost looking forward to it more than I am. Furthermore his parents are happy about the idea (I love hanging around his parents!) and as far as we can see ... best case scenario: he loves the experience ... worst case scenario: he hates the experience and appreciates his wealth and parents more.
  • Finally there is a guy that I have been acquaintances with for five and a half years now. We spent one year as acquaintances (he is the friend of the "certain person" above) and I liked him the moment I met him, then he spent one year in China, then he came back and we were acquaintances again for the next year, then he was influenced too much by the "certain person" and spent the next two years arguing with me. This year he finally realised what a worthwhile person I am and started treating me as such, so in the past 2-3 months we've gone from acquaintances to friends to best friends. The strangest thing is that despite arguing for the past two years, in the last week we've discovered that we actually have the same perspective on a lot of different issues and what we both want in our futures match up so perfectly that ... well I'll leave that sentence undefined, but the other great thing is that now this guy and I have all these inside jokes.
  • I quit my negative job and are looking for a new one. This was a big deal for me to just make the decision rather than stay where it was comfortable but unhealthy.
